Are You Ready for Harvest Season? Here’s Your Pre-Season Seat Check

Harvest season is just around the corner—and for many operators, that means long hours in the cab and high demands on both man and machine. While you’re inspecting combines, tractors, and implements, don’t forget one of your most important tools: your seat.

A poorly functioning seat can turn a productive day into a painful one—or even bring your operation to a halt. Before you fire up the equipment for the season, take a few minutes to inspect your seating system.

Here’s a quick checklist to make sure your GRAMMER seat is harvest-ready:

1. Is Your Cushion in Good Shape?

Cushions are the most commonly replaced service part—and for good reason. A worn-down or cracked cushion doesn't just look bad; it compromises your comfort and support during long days in the field.

  • Check for rips, sagging, or flat spots
  • Look for hardening foam or loose fabric
  • Consider upgrading to a heated cushion if you're harvesting into colder temps

Pro tip: Replacing your cushion now prevents mid-season discomfort—or downtime when parts are harder to get quickly.  Watch the following videos to see how easy it is to remove your worn cushions.

2. Did Mice Get to Your Cab?

It’s not just grain they love—your seat and air line system are also on the menu.

  • Look for chewed-up upholstery, especially along seams and under the cushion
  • Inspect for nesting debris or droppings
  • Check if your suspension air lines are intact
  • Sniff test: Musty, rodent-y odors may mean unseen damage

3. Is the Suspension Airing Up Properly?

Your air suspension plays a key role in reducing vibration and operator fatigue.

  • Turn on the ignition and listen—can you hear the compressor?
  • Sit down and check for proper travel and leveling
  • If the seat stays flat or uneven, mice may have chewed your air lines or connectors

Mouse damage to air suspensions is a real issue—don’t wait until your seat bottoms out mid-harvest.

4. Are Your Seatbelts Operational?

Safety matters—especially during hectic harvest days with multiple operators.

  • Check for frayed belts or sticky retractors
  • Ensure the buckle clicks and releases properly
  • Don’t ignore a malfunctioning belt—replacements are easy and affordable
